Happy Nurses Week 2025! To wrap up the week, we're sharing our final Ask the ASBN Q&A for our members and followers. We hope you've had a meaningful and inspiring week. We're honored to continue supporting our profession through our mission: to unite, support, educate, and strengthen the professional identity of Nurse Practitioners in Arkansas, while promoting and advocating for excellence in practice.
If you are granted independent practice for family medicine and you would like to hire a collaborating md, can they have a different specialty than family medicine?
If you are granted full independent practice, you are not required to have a collaborative practice agreement or collaborating physician. For collaborative practice agreements, the ASBN Rules 17 CAR 123-601 (5)(A) states, in part, a practicing physician who is licensed under the Arkansas Medical Practices Act...who has training within the scope, specialty, or expertise of the APRN.
