Ask the Board of Nursing: Resuming medication for inpatient setting

In inpatient settings for new admissions taking psychotropic home medications, is family nurse practitioner allowed to resume these medications such as seroquel, lithium? These medications require patient to resume due to the nature of psychotropic medications.

This question raises concern why an FNP would be admitting a patient into a facility? That does not sound like a role within an FNP's scope of practice. However, to answer the question, it would be reasonable for an admitting provider to order home medications. Changes should not be made, but should be ordered as prescribed at home.
