ANPA wishes to celebrate and honor Arkansas NPs during National Nurse Practitioner Week, November 12-18, 2017!

Every year in November, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) asks that our nation recognizes and honors nurse practitioners during National Nurse Practitioner Week. Together, we can honor our nurse practitioner colleagues and educate our legislators, too!

It is exciting to share that Governor Asa Hutchinson has issued a Proclamation for the state of Arkansas in observance of this special week dedicated to nurse practitioners. We are so thankful for his support and encouragement of nurse practitioners in our state. And Mark Stodola, Mayor of Little Rock has issued a proclamation for Little Rock, AR.

See the National 2017 NP Week map of proclamations  and the Arkansas Governor's Proclamation that are attached.

An important benefit of NP Week is that it is a perfect time to begin educating our communities and our legislators about how NPs influence the health of Arkansans. It is so vital that we all develop a relationship with our legislators in order to effect positive change for nursing in our state. Now is a great time to start, renew, or refresh that relationship!

IF YOU ONLY HAVE A FEW MINUTES, contact your legislator by email through the Nurses for Arkansas website (easy and quick):

  • Go to www.nursesforarkansas.com
  • Click on the "Take Action” link
  • Enter your email address and zip code in the appropriate boxes to locate your legislators
  • Edit the preformatted letter or use it as written
  • Enter personal information (e.g. name, address, etc.) in the appropriate boxes as requested
  • Click “Send Message” and you are done!

IF YOU HAVE MORE TIME, here are a few examples of ways you can honor NPs:

  • Plan an event at your workplace to highlight the NPs in your clinics and organizations
  • Place an announcement on the homepage of your hospital’s website and intranet site
  • Plan an announcement on your office or hospital’s Facebook page
  • Write a Letter to the Editor about NPs for your local newspaper
  • Make a phone call or meet with your legislators and let them know the ways in which NPs positively impact the health of their constituents

If you don't know who your legislators are, use the following links:

Sincerely,

The Arkansas Nurse Practitioner Association
Katherine Darling, AANP State Representative
