Independent Practice Social Media Challenge

By applying for the removal of the collaboration agreement you have the opportunity to be a leader in continued legislative efforts in Arkansas.  In order to move closer to true Full Practice Authority in Arkansas, we need independent practice nurse practitioner data.  The only way to get this data is by having a large number of Nurse Practitioners in Arkansas apply for removal of the collaborative practice agreement. Nurse Practitioner data plays a prominent role in legislative efforts and one question we have heard from Arkansas legislators is, “Where is the Arkansas data?”  The only way to get independent practice data is to have nurse practitioners practicing without collaboration. Legislative and Healthcare organizations rely on data to make important decisions regarding nurse practitioner practice as well as legislative and financial decisions.

Working to ensure independent practice data is collected, organized, analyzed, and implemented is the best way that we can improve multiple aspects of healthcare legislation , nursing and nursing processes ensuring that we continue to move closer to true, Full Practice Authority for Arkansas. We ask you to share the excitement of applying for removal of collaborative practice agreements by posting the attached announcement graphic with the hashtag #IndependentPracticeAR.  Encourage your colleagues to apply and share!

This is not necessarily an easy task to accomplish. I have applied but ran in to a few roadblocks. I came from an independent practice state and the current rule does not make any accommodations for that situation. Thankfully, I worked for the DoD and the VA for 6 years and that is collaborative in nature so I was able to ask a previous rating physician to do the attestation of hours for me. Just waiting for it to come back to me and that is the last piece I am missing from my packet. Good luck to everyone! If you qualify, apply!

Can you tell me exactly what the attestation entailed? Did you prepare it?

I am grateful for these endeavors and will be participating in independent practice however there are some hoops! I am having to get a notary to the physicians (3) whom I have worked with because none of them have worked with me for all the hours needed (they left for various reasons-I have stayed at same location). I have inquired about this per email to whoever receives emails from this account but have not heard if my current collaborator can sign to attest to all the hours although she is not the one I have been with for all of them.

Hi APRNS,
Let's get this party started. I submitted my application for Full Independent Practice yesterday. It took some creativity on my part since I work in Tennessee and Arkansas with the bulk of my practice hours in Tennessee. My Memphis provider works seven days a week and was not interested to take time away from his busy schedule to sign the attestation in front of a Notary with both of us present. I did a google search and found a mobile Notary who met us at the hospital and verified our credentials and Notarized the form. #IndependentPracticeAR #wegothisAR #letsdoitARNPs

Hi Nicole Garth-there is a form on the AR Board of Nursing website you have to have a physician sign verifying you have completed x number of hours under a collaborative practice. Without that form, you are dead in the water unless you can produce enough documentation to show that you worked under one such as military orders, etc. The burden of proof is on you.

Ok. Thank you

This is for anyone. Does the recommendations have to be from physicians?

ANPA Admin over 1 year ago

It does not state who must write your recommendations. We have heard NPs have submitted letters of recommendations from physicians, fellow NPs, and Pharmacists so far.

I haven’t heard about any more approvals. Anybody know how the process is going. I applied in September with no decision as of today.
