We are starting a Weekly Member Spotlight to celebrate all of the amazing nurse practitioners of ANPA. This week we celebrate David Young. See his interview answers:
I've been practicing as a family nurse practitioner since 2020. As a young boy, a medical student gave me a coloring anatomy book and words of wisdom, “use the time you have wisely because you can never get it back and it will pass whether you use it or not.” From then on it has been my life pursuit to be a healthcare provider. Coming from an impoverished family, I have had to work my way up from an NA, CNA, CMA, Navy corpsman, EMT, MHT, LPN, and RN. After spending so much time in nursing and healthcare, the DNP was the next logical goal. My biggest success to date has been completing my DNP.
What has been your biggest challenge? My biggest challenge is starting a private practice, which I am currently doing.
What inspires you to hit the ground running each morning? I feel that I have a duty, responsibility, and a steadfast commitment to myself, my family, and to my community which encourages me to continue despite any hardships that I encounter.
What's an interesting fact about you that most people don't know? I do woodworking including mini wooden figures and furniture.
When you are not working, what is your favorite thing to do? Relax and spend quality time with my family.
