Promoting Nurse Practitioner Week
November 8-14, 2015
It is time once again to promote ourselves to our neighbors, friends, families, lawmakers and stakeholders about who we are and what we do. There are so many ways in which we can get the word out. For example, NP Staci Graber was featured in a video about treating resistant head lice. This video was posted on the ANPA website and over 1000 people viewed it and many shared it. Many news stations are interested in these types of "clips". We are experts and teachers.
In previous years, NPs have published editorials and special op-ed pieces about NPs in their local and state newspapers. Radio spots, tv spots, articles on workplace intranets can be done with a modest investment of time. Interviews with NPs can be published in school and organizational newsletters and eblasts.
We are anticipating Governor Asa Hutchison's Declaration of November 8-14 as the 2015 Nurse Practitioner Week. In years past, NPs have asked their local mayors to write similar declarations for their communities and have taken pictures with them to be published on social media.
Attached is a Resource Guide with ideas and "how-to directions". AANP has done a lot of the work for us. It is fun and provides an exciting opportunity to spread the word about nurse practitioners. Many people don't really know what nurse practitioners do. Let's educate our neighbors during NP Week 2015! If we don't take this opportunity to toot our own horn, who will do it for us?
Happy NP Week 2015!
Katherine Darling, President Elect
ANPA and the State Representative for AANP
